Lowering Calcium Hardness In Swimming Pools

When it comes to owning a residential and commercial swimming pool in the Las Vegas area you’re going to have to familiarize yourself with Calcium Hardness. Many homeowners aren’t aware of it as it relates to their swimming pool but if you have scaling on your faucets, showerheads, and countertops could you imagine what it is doing to your swimming pool? This is a frustrating issue that many swimming pool owners in Las Vegas deal with and if you don’t manage it your swimming pool is going to run into problems. It’s calcium, magnesium, and other hardness minerals in our local tap water and over time will build up in concentration.  So, how do you deal with it?

Unfortunately, when individuals build swimming pools they are not made aware of this problem before it appears. Typically, you will see it on your water tile line, water features, spillways, and salt chlorinator if you have one. The other thing that the hard water will scale is your filtration equipment. Over time, this will decrease the lifespan of your equipment and the interior finish of the swimming pool.

As water evaporates in the swimming pool the calcium and other hardness minerals remain in the pool. In the swimming pool industry, the normal levels of Calcium Hardness are between 200 – 400 parts per million (ppm). However, in Las Vegas, tap water can be measured at 400 ppm and higher! So this means as soon as you fill up your pool you are already on a higher level than what is recommended.

Pure Pool Purification in Las Vegas

If you talk to many in the swimming pool industry they will tell you to drain and refill your swimming pool. Remember though that the hardness levels coming out of the tap are higher than what is recommended and in Nevada where water is at a premium this isn’t a practice we recommend. That is why at City Wide Pool Service and our sister company Pure Pool Purification we recommend The Puripool Process for both residential and commercial swimming pools. This is a mobile service that comes to your pool and recycles the pool water onsite using Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtration.

The biggest key to our service is the fact that we are able to lower Calcium Hardness, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Cyanuric Acid (CYA), phosphates, nitrates, and waterborne diseases without draining the pool. This is one of the biggest selling points with our service. There are numerous other benefits but if you want to swim in softer/superior water quality and try to prevent scaling using The Puripool Process is the best way to go. If you should have any questions about our service or how it can benefit you, please contact us today!
