In Las Vegas, more than 23.8% of the population owns a swimming pool. So, it isn’t rare for pool owners to try and resolve minor pool issues on their own.

Knowing a few tips and tricks for DIY pool maintenance can save you a few bucks.

Any pool issue can be fixed with the right skill and equipment. Read on as we share some neat tips for DIY pool repairs and where to find trusted pool repair specialists in Las Vegas.

Cloudy Water

In most cases, pool owners can perform a simple maintenance task like cleaning the pool water on their own. The water in your pool might become murky due to several factors like poor weather conditions, issues with your filtering system, algae formation, and pool chemicals.

You can use a water clarifier to resolve any particles in the water. A water clarifier will bring smaller particles together and make it easier for the filter to suck them out. Other than a water clarifier, you can just stir the water using a pool brush to elevate the bottom particles to the pool’s surface.

Pool Leaks

Pool Leaks

Pool leaks are more common than pool owners think. One of the most important things to remember when dealing with a leaky pool is to take your time dealing with it. Pool leaks might become an extreme threat to the structure of their pool especially when left untreated.

When you spot a leak in your pool, the first thing to do is check the filtering system. The main cause of the leak might be a malfunctioning pump, a faulty filter, a heater, a chlorinator, or any other component of the filtering system.

If you own a vinyl-lined pool, you’ll be able to fix the issue faster and more efficiently compared to mending a leak in a concrete or fiberglass pool.

To tackle a leaky pool, you only need a vinyl pool liner kit for repairs. Cut a round patch bigger than the leak hole and use the kit glue to stick it over the hole.

If the leak comes from beneath the water, fold the glued patch to prevent the water from reaching the glue, and dive down to the leak. Be as fast as you can when unfolding the patch and attaching it to the hole. Hold it firmly in position for around five minutes.

When to Leave It to the Professionals

As a pool owner and self-made handyman, some pool issues might be out of your capacity, like:

  • Pump or motor failure
  • Pool lighting issues
  • Deeper leaks
  • Pool heater troubles
  • Blocked pipes or filter

In this case, the best course of action is to hire a pool repair service provider.
